UX DESIGN PROJECT

PIZZA APP REDESIGN

OVERVIEW

The project was a self-initiated UI case study project to redesign a pizza delivery app.
The case study used an Australian Pizza chain called Rocketboy website as the ‘client’.
The purpose of the project was to challenge myself to explore more on the UI elements of the web app.

1 MINUTE SUMMARY

THE CHALLENGE:

“How might we improve the experience of ordering a pizza using a web app without overwhelmed users with the extensive list of options in the menu?”

BACKGROUND RESEARCH

To analyse the existing problems, competitor analysis was conducted among 3 pizza chains (Domino Pizza, Pizza Hut, and Rocketboy Pizza). Additionally, Heuristic Evaluation was also done to capture more usability pain points users face when interacting with these apps/web app.

Problems identified with the existing web-app:

  • Hard to navigate

  • Unconventional behaviour of the hamburger menu

  • Inconsistency in the homepage design with the design in other pages

  • Visually the web app looks crowded and overwhelming

IDEATE

User flow was developed to help to understand the user journey better.
The user flow, then, was translated into wireframes, where more design opportunities were discovered.

Design Opportunities:

  • Add filter to help users to find the pizza they want faster.

  • Categorize products and display it as a tab menu instead of listing the products vertically to reduce scrolling

  • Consider making selections to be as visual as possible to make them more engaging.

  • Add a feature to track order and give a live update of the order status.

User testing was conducted in 2 different phases; usability testing with the mid-fidelity prototype and post-testing interview. A/B testing and System Usability Scale analysis were also done to help quantify the design decision for the final iteration.

ITERATE

As tab systems and collapsible drawers were implemented to organise the information, especially in the menu screens, a signifier of the collapsible drawer should be made more prominent.

Generally, participants thought the redesigned web app was not overwhelming, and the
micro-interaction of the UI made the web app more engaging.

MY ROLE

  • Led the team to carry the UX Design process

  • Conducted Heuristic Evaluation and analysed SUS

  • Conducted the user testing and interview

  • Developed user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototype
